Hayley at Her Farm
We had the amazing experience of spending a weekend at Ketcham Farm in New Jersey's Allentown. Larry and I love doing fresh and exciting work and we both loved having the horses all around us! What a beautiful and different life it is to live on a horse farm. Hayley is living her dreams there with her family.

Family Reunions | The Regan Family
Happy New Year! I am finally done with eating, parties and lounging, and it's actually really nice to be at my desk.
During our holiday I took a couple of opportunities to photograph family reunions. What a great time to have a family portrait session, when everyone you love has flown home. Karen and Michael were blessed with all three of their grandsons to entertain. I loved that we had a gorgeous December day to shoot in the court yard of the Boston Public Library. What a treat!

Autumn Sessions | The Whitaker Bennetts
You can certainly tell the holidays are here on our blog. Why? Not because there are bunches of cute family sessions with dashes of red here and there, but because of the beautiful faces looking right in my lens. I have this obsession with getting children to actually look at the camera for their portraits. I don't mind if they are serious or smiling or saying CHRISTMAS TREE! I just want to see their faces. There is always time for candid portraits. But for now we want to share faces. Faces that change too quickly and faces that live too far away. So when you send out your Holiday cards know they are cherished and worth every minute of work and preparation.

I love this family. Marika and Jonathan come to my mind often when I think of caring, patient parents. And they are so stinkin' stylish I could cry! Thank you guys for having me photograph your family and get ready for a beautiful collection of candid moments that I did not feature here:)

Parker | Senior Portraits
Parker is one stylish kid. And he was ready to work the camera. It was a fun time walking around the Back Bay and into the Public Garden for his Senior Portrait Session with him and his mom Linda. Mothers and sons... If I even consider my little boy being a senior in high school I get weepy!

Family Reunion at Ketcham Farm
Happy Thanksgiving! I am excited to share Part I of our sessions at the Carlson Family's horse farm today, when families gather to give thanks. Our family went to NJ to photograph and enjoy their splendid horse farm. We had four shoots over the weekend and I have so much more to share, including baby Savannah's 1st portrait session, Haley and her horses and the fine art landscapes. For now I am going to go grab a mimosa and enjoy this beautiful Thanksgiving Day!

Fall Family Sessions | The McDonnells and Friends
Mimi and Louise are best friends and they are each others 1st sons godmothers as well. So a tandem photo session was a perfect idea. They are like family, and their four little boys are adorable together. I wanted to share so many more, because there were amazing candid moments too. But that will have to be a surprise for Mimi and Louise to see. I am scurrying to share this post because tomorrow is the kick off of Mimi's Holiday Trunk Show featuring Pears and Bears. She is my hook up for the beautiful clothing I save for portraits of our own children. And many of the clothes in these photos. So I am thrilled to share these with her in time.

Family Portrait Time | The Gallaghers
This is a fun time of year for me, because I switch gears from focusing mostly on weddings to family portraits. I love both, but a change of pace is always welcome. I photographed the Gallagher family at the Old North Bridge where Larry and I did the formals of Kelly and Chris' wedding party back in 2009. It was so special to see them there again with their beautiful baby boy, and his grandparents and Auntie too!

Lisa and Mike | Wedding Day!
We love photographing weddings in our home town. Seeing all of those familiar faces and taking a new look at the buildings we pass by everyday. St. Mary's Star of the Sea is such a beautiful church. Lisa and Mike looked so happy on the steps leaving their ceremony. The celebration was at the lovely Moraine Farm. I love the grounds there, the gardens are layered with prettiness. They had a perfect Autumn evening for their many friends and family to enjoy the outdoors and dance the night away. Congratulations Lisa and Mike!

Danielle and Jim | Love Session
They are fabulous together and adorable for the camera too. I hopped in the car with them and Jim drove all over the South Shore for these pretty scenes that are everyday life for them. After our shoot they invited our whole family to the beach (we drove our wagon right to our picnic spot for the very 1st time!) and Danielle prepared s'mores for the kids and had a delicious spread and yummy wine for us. It was an amazing night and I just know Danielle and Jim are going to throw an incredible wedding celebration at Mt. Washington Resort this coming February. We can hardly wait!

Erin and Michael | Married!
What did we love about this day? For starters, Erin's dress was so beautiful on her! I loved the sash that she designed herself. Loved the flowers, they were elegant and woodsy at the same time. We loved the birch centerpieces and the rustic elements. Loved the way Erin and Michael smiled at each other. Loved how choked up Erin got right before the ceremony, and that her bro gave her a quick pep talk before she went down the aisle. But most of all I think my favorite part was the silly factor, the kazoos and the funny faces. There is no denying it was a very fun wedding.

Ella and Family | Good Harbor Beach
These little toes couldn't wait to get in the sand. When they did they were off and running. Ella loves to run and run and run! She stopped for a quick cuddle here and there and she even slowed down to give me these gorgeous little looks every so often. Which melted me but, I think they will melt mom and dad, and grandpa and grandma even more. Just precious.

Ben and Alex | Married!
We are so thankful for Ben and Alex and their close group of friends and family. We have gotten to know them well after photographing many of their weddings, family and baby portraits, and even anniversary portraits. It's been one of those connections that continues to give and give.
I probably do not have to say how inspirational their wedding day was to shoot because you can see in my inability to choose just 20 or so images. Glen Magna Farms is beautiful, the flowers, dresses, ties and all... beautiful. But as I always say the day is great because of the people. Just look at the way Ben looks at Alex! It melts me.

Caitlin and Kyle | Backyard Wedding
Sometimes we photograph a wedding that makes me want to get married all over again. I would love to throw a party like this one. The details were romantic and earthy. Their bridal party made me laugh all day. After all, two of the members are actually professional clowns! The toasts could not have been funnier, and I just love these people. That makes the day more than the gorgeous blooms and the adorable details.

Larry met them on a toasty Septmember day at Halibut Point in Rockport. It is so beautiful there so the kids and I went along for the ride and spied on the photo shoot. Newborn Mack | At Home
This lifestyle session was so precious. Little Mack was just perfect doing exactly what we needed him to do. Sleep, cry, eat, cuddle. All of the things that our babies do for months and months that we forget about when they are older. After all they are constantly doing something new and exciting as they grow. It's so hard to keep track! Spending time with Liz and baby Mack brought memories of my own little newborns flooding back to me. And I am grateful for that.

Nancy and Brian | August 14, 2011
This year has been a very emotional one for Nancy and Brian. Their wedding day was equally full of emotion and love for each other and love from their family and friends. Larry and I felt privileged to be there to capture the day. The part I loved most was being able to see the relationship between them and their parents. I know it was one of the happiest days for them and that they couldn't be more pleased for their children. Gosh I could cry just typing that.

We hope you enjoy this sneak peak, and we want to congratulate the newly weds and welcome them back from their honeymoon in Italy! I am so jealous!!

Vera June Goes To School
Last week Eldon went to first grade and it was fine but really really hard. After all I was going to home school him this year until I realized it wasn't a good plan for our family.

We all experienced a full school day without him for the first time and I think it was the biggest shocker to Vera June. They are the best pals on earth. Slowly the idea of preschool didn't seem so bad to Vera June as she realized her brother wouldn't be around all day long. Today was orientation and she was 100% on board. I was so proud. She sat down at the table in each room as her teachers shared information about the school day with parents. Busying herself with all of the fun materials they had laid out for the class. Loving it. And then when it was time to go she raced right out to the play ground in the rain. She didn't want to leave.

So here I am with my last week day of childcare. Procrastinating, reflecting, and flat out stumped at this bittersweet milestone we have come to. I will not say anymore regarding my feelings, because I have to edit weddings all afternoon. I do that best when my eyes aren't watery!

I just want to thank our faithful blog reader Robyn, for encouraging me to share family stories and pictures again. It has been a long while. My excuse- Instagram. I am aware that while taking pictures with our iPhones is fun and easy it does not cover all the bases. SO you will be seeing a little more of the Sherrells again.

Catie| Inspiration
This morning I photographed the lovely and flexibly gifted Catie of Spirit Wellness Center in Salem, MA. I have been trying to finagle the crow pose for a couple of weeks now, and it just wasn't happening. Catie gave me a little coaching and I think with a few more weeks of practice and looser pants (not the jeans I was wearing) I might just be able to figure out the pose. I am pretty sure it will never be a pose I rest in, but after photographing Catie I can see that some people actually can! We took many pictures in different locations around Lynch Park, but there is something so beautiful to me about these. Maybe it is the wind or the touches of light on her silhouette. I just love them.

The Sprague Family | At Home
Well at one of their homes... they are MA to FL snowbirds and that was their plan back in October of 2005 when Larry and I photographed their wedding at Mt. Snow in VT. I was so excited to get Heather's call to find out they were having their second baby and they wanted me to photograph them and their two beautiful children!
Now this little man is all about romping and running (as he should be!) but I was so pleased to get a tender moment between him and his sister. We still kept it fun and I made sure he did lots of what he loves best, playing with his dad.
Congratulations Rob and Heather on your gorgeous family. I loved seeing you again and I look forward to our next shoot!

Betsy and Paul | We'll Just Call It An Anniversary Shoot

The Olivers | Family and Yoga
We had a perfect combination for pretty pictures at Appleton Farm- A beautiful night, happy parents, happy baby, and a very fit mama. I have never participated in Mommy Baby Yoga, but I wish I had. Baby Ryder loved moving with Sarah and getting his own little work out. And it made shooting at his bedtime possible too!

The Portnoy Family | Traditions
Our main objective for this family session was to replicate a portrait that is now a family tradition for the Portnoys. I went with heavy grain and window lighting to achieve that in the 1st image. I'm hoping the rest of the shoot will have similar heirloom quality in a few years!
Moms and dads are getting so smart. The ice cream treat from JP Licks was ready and waiting to be scooped for their good little model. He totally deserved it too.

Mike and Kate | Wedding Story
When we go out to photograph a wedding day our aim is to capture it in a way that will make our subjects laugh and cry all over again when they see their photographs. As I edited Mike and Kate's day I was literally crying over the surprise 1st dance song by Courtney Reid, a gift from the MOH, Kate's sister. I chose each of these images because of the emotional connection they hold. I hope that they will carry this for them for many years.

Kyle and Jessica | Wed by the Sea
What do we love about this wedding? Well that list is long. Firstly Kyle and Jess and... the blue and yellow color palette, the song Kyle's mom and dad wrote for their son and new daughter, the little birds everywhere, the vintage pins in Jess' hair that were something borrowed from her bridesmaid, the sail boats, and the funtabulous guests. We also loved the band who's name we did not get so someone please share it in the comments... please! They were so good. Castle Hill in Newport RI was lovely.

Emily and Craig | Wedding Day
This was an incredible day for the Sherrell family. We photographed our dear Emily and Craig's wedding day, and our children were in the bridal party. It was so beautiful even with the continuous down pour. Emily and Craig along with their wonderful families put this together. Every detail was theirs down to the flower girls dress hand made by the bride. When I walked into the lakeside tent I could not believe the beautiful details on every square inch of the tables. The food was delicious. The signature cocktail was rockin' and the guests were fabulous in their vintage hats. I'm pretty sure everyone had a good time.

Michael and Kate | To Be Wed

Caitlin and Kyle | NYC and Brooklyn
This September Cailtin and Kyle will be married. Their story is simple and lovely their personalities are modest and yet they are the MOST EXCITING AND FUN PEOPLE TO PHOTOGRAPH!...
OK so I freaked a little bit there. Our friends and clients Robyn and Dave introduced us. You can see their family on the previous blog post and they are equally inspirational to shoot. Which is great because the little boys will be in Caitlin and Kyle's wedding party. How fun!
The settings for our shoot were Caitlin's Murals in downtown Manhattan, Ft. Green Park where they were engaged, and we wrapped it up at Cailtin's studio. Her work is amazing, check it out here at Cailin Hurd.

Rice Family | Coney Island
The entire time I edited these images I was thinking about all the cool things I could share with you about this family. Now I sit here tongue tied. And because Robyn is much better with words, I want to share her blog with you. Made in Brooklyn. It is full of delightful stories, cookie recipes and brilliant scrap booking pages. Is that even possible? Well... yes.
So a little about this shoot. I have never laughed more, ran more, or had more fun on a photo shoot. It might not be what every family is looking for in their family photo session, and it might not even be what the Rice family was dreaming of, but they are so good at keeping it light and humorous and letting it roll the way it does. I really like that about them.

We adore this couple and have had lots of good times spent with Kirsten. We were lucky to have her in our lives when we left our first child to go photograph weddings. Communion and Family Session | Lynch Park
Gail and Duncan have beautiful children, and so much to be thankful for. Including each other. The best part of this shoot was when at the end Gail said "I want pictures of Duncan and me. We haven't had any since our wedding and I am all set with pictures of the kids." I just love when couples remember to focus on each other. It's so good for the kids!

This shoot kicks off an exciting season. The winter was SO long and I am ready to get busy with more out door sessions.

The talented Mister Nutter
We did a fashion Shoot together for Mister Nutter a fashion designer who has a serious appreciation for quality fashion pieces from the past. This shoots focus was on his wool hats and wool swimmies. A division that Mister Nutter will call Sea Lawn. Keep an eye out for his new summer 2011 line. We will be.

Family Session | Two Weeks Old
Chris and Kelly welcomed their baby boy John into the world three weeks ago. We photographed their wedding and have seen them at many of their family and friends weddings too. You know how we feel about working within close groups of friends. We love it. It's like we are family too! So it was extra special to photograph this newborn session. Alison Trick | Vocal Artist
Alison and I have been planning this session for months and yet with winter weather the concept for our shoot kept changing. We never actually settled on a plan except for... Alison will wear a beautiful gown, we will shoot at night, and it will be in Marblehead. So when we drove around town for inspiration we found the lights on at Flore Mantilla and I knew we had found our location. Nancy the owner of Flore Mantilla is just fabulous. She gave Alison the gorgeous rose in the portraits and told us it is called "Faith". How divine. Alison sang a few classical numbers and warmed up inside while I set up my gear. She was wonderful to work with, even out in the cold as I had her sit on freezing stone and wet benches. As I wrapped up the shoot Nancy's girls poured us glasses of wine to unwind and relax.

Susan and Brian are starting 2011 with great anticipation as they wait for the arrival of their baby in just a few short weeks. I was so happy to be there to photograph their wedding day. And it was as much a blessing to be there to capture them in this season. If I chose a word that would convey the feeling in their home it is peace. What a nice way to ring in the New Year. Happy 2011!

A Little More Merry For You
The Lai Family and I have been working together for 7 years. It warms my heart to remember all of our fun portrait sessions. I watched their girls grow from adorable babies to sweet little girls. Capturing all of these stages is the best part of my job.

Katie and Matt | Married
Their wedding was an absolute treat to photograph! Beautiful, kind, wonderful people many of whom I had already been acquainted with at Katie's brothers wedding a few years ago. It was a perfect warm night in November and I had a wonderful second shooter, my dear friend Erica Pelaccia joined me to photograph the day. Loved loved loved that!

Brothers | Cousins
When Tennant was a few months old I went to photograph his baby portrait. Now he is a big brother and he had so much fun showing me his new house and his new baby brother and oh it was just so exciting. I am so glad we got the family portrait where they are all, including Jackson the french bulldog, scattered. Of course we have one where they are each on the couch hugging and smiling, but this one really exemplifies the session! It's all about capturing the essence of their ages right? We also got a chance to get a few of their cousins Isaac and Anson. I think they all did a super duper job. Don't you?

Family Reunion

Corey & Lyndsey
I was able to photograph Corey and Lyndsey's Halloween nuptials last month and had such a spooktacular (sorry couldn't resist) time doing it. Besides having a group of family and friends that know how to come together, Corey and Lyndsey had a costumed reception. To see all of the ghouls and goblins and an appearance by The King himself made for quite a night. This is one couple that I won't soon forget. Congratulations Corey and Lyndsey, and thank you for inviting me to be a part of it! -Larry
